b-sides: word of the year

Hello, we’ve got a little something unexpected for you today.

Mel and I had our first indie business club session of the year this week. The plan was, well to plan. Sort out the themes for the next few episodes, schedule the releases, that sort of thing.

As it was, we started off by chatting about the current trend on LinkedIn of announcing your “word of the year”. And it was fun. So we pressed record and lo and behold, we have a B side for you.

We talk about why people are choosing a word of the year. And how picking one, along with positive manifestation and planning might lead to good things in your life and business. And we’ll reveal our own words of the year and explain what they mean for us individually.

Linked-mINisode

We had some good feedback on our previous B-side, a shorter 9 minute minisode about my relationship with LinkedIn. The main thing we heard from you was, “We like the shorter show, but it’s too short! Make it longer.” So today’s B-side comes in at a still bitesize 15 minutes and change.

So, if you want to know our words of the year, click play. And then send us a message and let us know yours. We’d love to know how you’re approaching 2025.

Ask us anything

Listener Gemma Strang (who got Highly Commended in the Brand Copywriting category at the recent Women In Marketing awards 👏) got in touch last week and suggested a Freelance Q&A episode. We’d love to do this. So, if anyone has any questions about freelancing, running your own business or indie business life in general, send them to us at show@indiebusinessclub.com and we’ll put a future show together

Free training

In case you missed it, we’re speaking at the Alt Marketing School open day on Thursday 16th January. There are 14 speakers and we’re talking about tone of voice and why it’s important for your brand and your business. Click the pic for tickets.

A yellow and orange background with Mel and Ben in black and white and Business of Marketing in bold black text. Underneath the name of the talk is "you're the voice try and understand it"

It’s an affiliate link so if you opt for the paid ticket, which gives you lifetime access to the talks, we get some cash which we’ll put towards the cost of making the podcast.

Cheers,

Ben & Mel
