Hi there, Ben here.
Mel and I went all nostalgic earlier today and jumped onto a LinkedIn Live for the first time in what feels like forever.
Our last one was back in April before we started to put the actual podcast together and we’ve missed the familiar avatar-faces of our regular listeners and the nice little jangly sound LinkedIn makes when you go ‘live’.
We talked about the origins of the pod, our favourite episodes, and what we’ve learned over the past 6 months recording and releasing 10 shows.
There’s something different about doing the LinkedIn Live format compared to recording a podcast. I don’t whether it’s the connection of seeing exactly who is listening or the fact there’s no opportunity to ask Producer Ant to ‘kill’ a part of the audio after we’ve stumbled over our words. It feels a bit more intimate. And I quite like the fact that once we press ‘leave’ it’s over and we can’t get it back as there’s no decent way of recording the audio.
On that, we know that not everybody can make the live show so we’ve recorded a subscriber-exclusive round-up (above) just for you guys. This won’t be available wherever you get your podcasts, the only way to listen is to press play above.
LinkedIn lives are super fun to do. If you’ve been thinking of trying one, my advice would be to go for it. Drop us an email if you’ve got any questions about getting started :)
PS: Our pal Raymond Manzor submitted a question ahead of time, asking: “What’s the hardest thing about setting up a podcast? And what are the costs involved.”
Basically our answer was, the time involved in doing it really well - to make sure the audio quality is good, it’s easily findable and accessible. But as Mel pointed out, it can be as easy as you want it to be. There’s nothing stopping you having a think, grabbing a mic, hitting record, and then uploading.
PPS: On the show we talked about how much Producer Ant (Sound Guy and sound guy) has helped us so far. He not only takes out all our umms and ahhs, but he also wrote and recorded our theme tune and just generally works on making us sound warm and lovely and level. I’ve popped his rates below. If you’re thinking about setting up a pod, hit us up on an email (show@indiebusinessclub.com) and we’ll put you in touch.
The next episode of the indie business club podcast is out next Thursday, October 31. Look out for all the details in our Sunday email :)
Have a great end to the week.
Ant’s fees: £1,800 for bespoke theme and audio assets including discovery, strategy, three initial “feel” proposals, and two rounds of revisions. We split this over six months, paying half each. £50 per hour for podcast editing so the more Mel waffles the more it costs. Find him here: Ant Henderson on LinkedIn
