indie business club
with Barfield & McKinney
He's Ben McKinney, I'm Mel Barfield. We're both copywriters who love the sound of our own voices. That’s why we started Freelancer Lunch Hours on LinkedIn, and now we’ve taken things up a notch by starting the indie business club podcast for independent creatives.
It’s aimed at freelancers, founders, and business owners. Everyone who works in creative industries and is in charge of their own career and diary.
We’ll talk about topics like pricing, subcontracting, managing your time, communities, boundaries. All sorts. And while we might have the occasional guest, it’ll mostly be two pals having a chat about biz stuff.
Who are we?
Ben's co-founder of Copy Or Die, a copywriting agency he launched with Dave Harland. Ben also cleans glass, but would probably prefer me to call him a successful window cleaning business owner 🧐
I'm a freelance copywriter and event speaker and I never clean glass. Or much else.
We started audio events on LinkedIn to capture the copy community vibe we enjoyed over on Twitter (RIP). It's grown into a broader working-for-yourself-in-general chat. People often ask us (genuinely, not in a “people always ask 😎” way) if we can record the sessions. And we can't. Because technology is not our friend. That’s why we’ve set up the podcast.
What do you get?
We send a little email every now and then to tell you:
when our next LinkedIn audio event is (we’ll continue doing those too)
about new pod episodes
our themes, topics, grumbles
any intel, insights, and “aha!” moments we get from talking stuff through
That’s it.
See you soon,
B&M
