Hi, Mel here.
This week, we sat down to record episode 10. Wahoo, double digits! Our excitement was short-lived when we realised after recording that my mic wasn’t engaged. Again.
*sigh*
Annoyingly, Ben even said halfway through “is your mic definitely plugged in, you sound really quiet…?”
I checked. The computer said it was using the correct one. But I’d unplugged and adjusted the mic arm just before we hit record. Should have come out then back into the software just to be safe. Another lesson learned.
What’s the story, indie glory?
Anyway, enough audio drama. We’d love to hear from you. Not about your mic mishaps (got plenty of our own, ta), we want to know how you ended up going indie in the first place.
What’s your origin story?
We’re going to feature listener stories in an episode, so let us know what led you to going solo/starting your own thing.
Just hit reply if you’re on our subscriber list or email show@indiebusinessclub.com if you’re not (yet) one of the cool kids.
New release
This Thursday, episode 9 comes out. It’s called Shiny Happy People and it’s all about personal branding. We know that term is a little marmite, but you’ve got a personal brand whether you like it or not. With a voice note from LinkedIn Queen Lea Turner.
In case you aren’t tech savvy like us (lolz) here’s some insider intel about our podcast. When we load up the audio into a Substack email and send it out, that’s how it gets onto spotify, apple, and the rest. It’s because we’ve hooked up (technical term) the RSS feed with our Substack account. After a slight delay, the episode then appears “wherever you get your podcasts”.
So, when we say subscribers hear first, we really mean it.

All caught up with the latest episode? It’s called Chasing Rainbows and it’s all about business planning. But don’t let that put you off 😉
What is a business plan? Aren’t they massive and complicated?
Well, yes. They can be as massive and complicated as you want them to be. We’ve got a top tip from our pal Alastair Thomson to help you get started.
Alastair has kindly agreed to run through business planning with us, using indie business club as an example. We’ll keep you updated when we know how/when/where it’ll run.
